I. The Lie We Keep Leading From

Here’s what most organizations won’t say out loud:

They’re sick.

Not just under-resourced. Not just “going through change.”

Sick.

They are systems designed to drain. Cultures calibrated for extraction. Structures wired to perform healing without ever embodying it.

And too often, the lie gets personalized—especially for Black and Brown leaders.

We internalize exhaustion as evidence of growth. We spiritualize overfunctioning as stewardship. We call chronic depletion leadership maturity.

But let me be clear: You are not burned out because you’re weak. You are burned out because you’ve been keeping alive a culture that refuses to examine itself.
